Microscopic Anatomy & Lifecycle

House dust mites are microscopic arachnids measuring approximately 0.2 to 0.3 mm in length, making them invisible to the naked human eye. They have a translucent, striated cuticle and eight legs equipped with sucker-like pads.

A female dust mite lives for roughly 60 to 100 days, during which she can lay between 60 and 100 eggs. The development from egg through larva and nymph to adult takes roughly 3 to 4 weeks under optimal temperature (20–25°C) and relative humidity (70–80%).
